My Work: Practical Magic & Suspending Disbelief

Although I enjoy meeting clients wherever they are on their journey, I’m not here to convince anyone that astrology is real (and you probably don’t want to pay me to do that anyway). A productive reading requires a certain leap of faith. But if you’re not a diehard believer, you don’t have to be. You just have to be willing to suspend your disbelief. And honestly, even true believers (like yours truly) have to do that too. Our logical parts are so important, but to truly make meaning, sometimes we have to leave room for what doesn’t immediately make sense.

Unbeliever is an expression of the importance of sacred doubt and mutuality in our relationship with Spirit—the Oracle, the Unconscious, the Uncanny, the Divine, or whatever Unseen force we engage through the cards, the stars, or other forms of depth work. Just like light and shadow, one does not exist without the other and more importantly, this thing we call Spirit isn’t static; it’s alive. In fact, it is the breath of life. Jung called this Pneuma and thought of it as the life force in every living being, as well as the great connector between humanity and the unconscious. My writing challenges aspects of the dominant culture to express strongly held ideas, and my readings inspire a collaborative process where ideas get stronger as they are explored, rather than falling apart. The essence of my work as an Unbeliever is to make space for a multifaceted, co-created, spiritual conversation that illuminates a path for you. It’s not about getting to the perfect last word; it’s about making things meaningful, coherent, and interesting, in a uniquely personal way.

I practice my own brand of Modern-Hellenistic Astrology, drawing from three years of schooling in the Nightlight Astrology program, continuing education in Jungian transpersonal depth work, a background in life coaching and counseling psychology, and especially, reading the tarot. My approach is interdisciplinary and interactive, and may include coaching, Focusingä-oriented and meditative techniques, other forms of divination, active imagination, creative interventions, and dreamwork.

My Story: The Woman Behind the Woo

I am in the process of completing my third-year certification in Counseling Skills and Advanced Mentoring through the Nightlight Astrology School taught by Adam Elenbaas. I am also completing the prerequisites for getting certified through the Organization for Professional Astrology (OPA). After a year of practicing natal and transit astrology, I began studying with Esoteric Yogic Astrologer Ben Mabry, who has been generous enough to share some of his wisdom about his background in theosophy and Vedic astrology, and how they contribute to the complexity of his eclectic reading style.

I love Adam’s accessibly profound way of teaching the traditional Hellenistic curriculum, the OPA’s focus on advanced group supervision, and astronomical literacy, and the carefully cultivated depth of Ben’s approach. What do all these approaches to learning and practicing astrology have in common? They are all bridges: the poet speaking to the everyman; professionals developing through peer support, lending integrity to the field; science engaging intimately with the unseen, and accumulating layers of connection through decades of practice. This bridging is an element I aspire to bring into my own work over time. I’m grateful to be inspired by the leaders of my field, and for good teachers to provide spiritual scaffolding along the way!

I am also grateful for my home-based bridges from the mystical to the mundane: my little animal family! After recently accumulating eight accidental cats (6 of them babies) in addition to our usual three (for a total of eleven cats!!!), along with a growing free-range backyard flock, I am humbled to add Bona-fide Crazy Cat and Chicken Lady to my list of credentials! You will likely encounter at least a critter or two in any given Zoom consultation with me. Since I moved out to the PNW to live with my wonderful boyfriend, I’ve discovered the joyful beauty of the outdoors, the importance of protecting the environment, and the incredible power of mother nature. I’m obsessed with hiking, the moon, the sunset—most celestial phenomena, actually– and more interested in the living world around me than I ever have before. Amazing that I had to get this far on my spiritual journey to hear the call of the physical world. Once again, the elegant wisdom of the universe, everyone!
